My Favorite Christian Podcasts

 My Favorite Christian Podcasts

Podcasts are a wonderful resource in our day to engage with Scripture, theology, and all sorts of important topics. These are the podcasts that I have enjoyed and found the most helpful in my own walk with Jesus, in no particular order, with a fun one at the end! I have excluded sermon based podcasts, as those will be in a post down the road.

1) Gospelbound by the Gospel Coalition

Gospelbound, hosted by Collin Hansen for The Gospel Coalition, is a podcast for those searching for firm faith in an anxious age. Each week, Collin talks with insightful guests about books, ideas, and how to navigate life by the gospel of Jesus Christ in a post-Christian culture.

I love Gospelbound because it covers a variety of topics, and engages lots of books and authors in any given season. I regularly add books cited from Gospelbound to my reading list. I would highly recommend you start with this episode- Why the Body of Christ is Essential

2) Pastors Talk by 9Marks

Pastors Talk is a weekly conversation between Jonathan Leeman and Mark Dever about practical aspects of the Christian life and pastoral ministry.

After I became a Christian I wanted to investigate what the Bible said about the local church. This podcast, along with some books they regularly refer to, formed the groundwork for my ecclesiology. I would highly recommend you start with this episode- On the Conscience

3) Mere Fidelity

Mere Fidelity brings you thoughtful weekly conversations about theology, the culture, and the church.

Mere Fidelity is a lot of fun, with topics ranging from ethics and theology, to charismatic dancing and political theory. Featuring four influential thinkers in the modern evangelical movement, and highly endorsed by Tim Keller, I cannot recommend highly enough.

I would highly recommend you start with this episode- Reforming Criminal Justice with Matthew Martens

4) The PloughCast: a podcast from Plough Quarterly

How can we live well together? What gives life purpose? What about technology, education, faith, capitalism, work, family? Is another life possible? Plough editor Peter Mommsen and senior editor Susannah Black Roberts dig deeper into perspectives from a wide variety of writers and thinkers appearing in the pages of Plough.

This is a podcast for people willing to engage with a wide variety of thinkers, some even non-Christian, in hopes of having a well rounded appreciation for humans, creation, and a vision for a better life.

I would highly recommend you start with this episode- Jenn Frey on Liberal Arts

5) Bible Talk by 9Marks

A podcast featuring conversations about the Bible and Biblical Theology.

I often tell people that the best books, podcasts, and preachers are the ones that help you love to read the Bible, and read it better. I know of no podcast that does just that quite as well as Bible Talk!

I would highly recommend you start with this episode- Genesis 1:1-3:19: On the Serpent, the Promised Seed, and Nahash The King of the Ammonites

6) Ask Pastor John by Desiring God

Thousands of questions have been asked of John Piper in this podcast, ranging from big items in theology to practical questions of Christian living.

I would highly recommend you start with this episode- Will Some People in Heaven Have More Joy Than Others?

7) Confronting Christianity with Rebecca McLaughlin

Confronting Christianity is a podcast where hard questions are faithfully explored by Rebecca McLaughlin.

Rebecca McLaughlin's book Confronting Christianity was a great read and I highly recommend it to anyone who is exploring Christianity, or is trying to share the Gospel with the lost in a secularized world.

I would highly recommend you start with this episode- Aren't We Better Off Without Religion?

8) Looking Unto Jesus with Paul Washer

For those who would like to hear short snippets of Puritan writing and meditation read aloud and explained, I would recommend these short episodes with Paul Washer.

I would highly recommend you start with this episode- The Father's Love for Jesus as Mediator

9) The Center for Baptist Renewal Podcast

CBR is a group of orthodox, evangelical Baptists committed to a retrieval of the Great Tradition for the renewal of Baptist faith and practice.

For Baptists looking for a theological heritage that is rooted somewhere deeper in history than Billy Graham, this is a great starting point.

I would highly recommend you start with this episode- Manifesto I: The Triune God

10) The Russell Moore Show

Listen in as Russell Moore, Editor in Chief and director of Christianity Today’s Public Theology Project, talks about the latest books, cultural conversations and pressing ethical questions that point us toward the kingdom of Christ.

I have found Russell Moore to be a helpful voice in areas of the Christian life related to politics, culture, and thinking well.

I would highly recommend you start with this episode- Rainn Wilson Tells Me Where I'm Wrong on Spirituality

11) Life and Books and Everything

In it we talk about everything from coronavirus to pop culture, from food to football, from theology to history, and from Mother’s Day to growing up in the Midwest—but in every episode we spend time talking about books (and also laughing).

The name says it all. This is a one stop shop for discussion on family, theology, football, and just about anything and everything else.

I would highly recommend you start with this episode- Five Books to Take On a Desert Island, Why The News Makes You Dumb, and Why Politics is the True National Pastime

12) The Happy Rant

Barnabas Piper, Ted Kluck, and Ronnie Martin cheerfully - if sarcastically - rant about all the things that don't matter all that much (and some that do).

Christians need to learn to laugh at themselves at times. This helps. I would highly recommend you start with this episode- Episode #64- A and B list List Reformed Guys and Game Day Tweeting

Mailbag #4 God, Trinity, Christology, and Strong Drink

Mailbag is a tool I utilize with students of Scripture and theology anytime I have the opportunity to teach. The questions that are sent in are ones that we did not have time for in the moment, or the scope of our passage did not directly answer them.  Students email me their questions, I reply with either my own answers, or trusted sources, and then I require that they engage the responses and sources cited before scheduling a meeting with me to discuss further. I am sharing these here for an archive of such questions and responses. Here are the questions... Is God always perfectly satisfied? Because God does all that He pleases, and can never lack anything or be taken by surprise, God must be supremely happy. How is this so? And how does this work when people sin against God? Here are two resources that will help provide a basis for the unchanging happiness of God: Can God Really Be Happy? Desiring God, Chapter 1   What did God’s existence look like before the creation ...
